RE: poor mileage on 99 dually with 7.4

its a bit low. I had a 98 with a 7.4 and towed a 24 foot enclosed trailer from WA to AK weighing 10K I averaged 11. I then put my 4K camper in the back and averaged 12.5 not towing I had a hypertech PP3, Flowmaster and KandN I have been doing a ton of mods over the years on my trucks, 5.3, 5.7, 6.0, 7.4 and my 8.1 I would ditch the MAF,go with a stock one and go with a tuned PCM from nelsonperformance.com or blackbearperfomrmance.com you will not be disappointed

RE: Dangerous Thinking

sorry if I wasn't clear. Yes, I am connecting the shore power cord to the inverter, as I have done on previous RVs I have had. I have always turned off the breaker to the converter, and everything worked perfectly. On this one, I believe I will have to go to the AC input of the converter as you mentioned, and switch it. For some reason I do not get AC to the trailer unless the breaker is closed.

RE: Dangerous Thinking

I wired up my new 1500. I have run them on prior RVs off my shore power cord and just turned off the converter breaker. With this I have no power with the converter breaker off, if I turn it on everything works for awhile but it drains the batteries quickly. Has anybody ever heard of this? Why would the converter breaker have to be on?

RE: tow vehicle advice

3/4 ton is knee-jerk, old school advice that doesn't take into account our current economic situation and rising fuel costs. You may indeed want a 3/4 ton, but let me ask you a few questions: 1) Will the tow vehicle be your daily driver? 2) How often to you plan to tow your rig each year? 3) What will your payload situation look like? (passengers & cargo) 4) Will you do a lot of extensive mountain camping? If you can make a beefy 1/2 ton work, I'd go for that in a heartbeat. My F150 had a towing capacity of 9200lbs and realistically your trailer is only going to weight 6500-7000lbs fully loaded. That's 25% less than what most 1/2 ton trucks are rated to pull these days. Very well said. I usually stay out of these, but I have had many trucks, and towed many things. Sure I miss my 2500HD when going up a long steep mountain with a load, but for the reasons stated above, I got rid of it and got a nice half ton. For my daily driver, all in the city, that HD was tough on me. A half ton properly equipped, will work great. Mine does.

RE: Lost A Window While Driving!

Same here! Screen went flying! Saw the blinds flapping in the mirror, I used a zip tye, but I like the drilling idea, and the pin clip, that is a great idea!

RE: Backing in somebody else's rig

I have done it for folks before; boats on ramps, TTs in campsites, motorcycle trailers at parking lots, etc. I would not have hesitated. They are still going to do it, get them out of the way for others if nothing else.

RE: how many of you have generators?

I have the EU2000, best investment yet. Runs in ECO mode unless the nuker is used. Charge batteries, or extended electronics use during bad weather. I don't run it during quiet hours. Use the inverter whenever possible.

RE: Whos says them cheap little TT grills are no good?

I have one of those RVQ units that came with the TT, and it works great. I have heard a ton of bad remarks about them, but so far it hasn't missed a beat. When it does I will bust out the welder and modify the framework to fit a Weber or something...

RE: Jayco generator compartment-not getting power HELP

Thanks for the reply, yes I did discover this finally. I had a slide in camper previously and the gen compartment was wired to the system with an auto transfer relay. I thought this system was similar. I never even noticed that receptacle on the exterior wall, and my manual (which I read cover to cover looking for the solution) said nothing about it! Thanks again!

RE: Hot water heater tank replacement--how difficult is it?

Well I pulled my whole unit out of the wall in about 10 minutes this weekend. Mine is also split. G6CAA-10 is what mine is. I am going to call A&M tomorrow to see if they have a tank. Post your results, I will do the same!

RE: Alaska at today's fuel price

It will be interesting to see how much this slows the tourism and campers from out of state. Well alaska511, it doesn't seem to have slowed the tide too much up here in Fairbanks, yet! Santa Claus RV park is filling up and Riverview RV Park has several units in it. River's Edge here in town is opening up this week and I expect it too will have it's share. As it has been said, fuel won't ever be any cheaper and all you're doing is getting older. So strike out while you can folks because you don't know what tomorrow holds. You can make up the difference in other areas. We are planning several in-state trips (can't go Outside for job reasons) but our in-state trips are equivalent to your multi-state ones down there! Hey traveler! Long time, no talk. I haven'y posted in a LONG time, sold the TC and the HD, bought a TT and a half ton :) Yeah I was up your way 2 weeks ago, and it all seemed pretty normal. I will start my normal trips to the Peninsula this week, and we will see how busy it is there. Usually a zoo of tourists. I will report :)

Jayco generator compartment-not getting power HELP

My 2005 Jayco 23 has a generator compartment and receptacle mounted with a 30 amp breaker. I mounted my inverter, and wired it. Mounted my Honda, plugged it in to the cord I wired to the recptacle and breaker. I am not getting any power to the trailer! My wiring is good, I verified with my meter. What could be the problem? Everything works great with my coverter (shorepower) plugged into utility. What am I doing wrong? Please help! I appreciate it!

RE: Does "lite" = cheap quality

Light doesn't equal cheap but "cheap" does equal cheap. Take for example the Jayflight vs Jayfeather. The feather is a more expensive trailer AND much lighter than the Jayflight. Just one example. I didn't find the feathers to be all that much lighter, definitely lower ceilings though. Quite a bit of bang for your buck, but the canvas pop-outs on the lengths I was looking at were not for me. The low ground clearance and small wheels/tires was another turn off for me.

RE: Thank goodness I found this forum!!!!!

Those Heartland TT's look good! Stick with that as long as you can handle the weight. Do not be persuaded to look into a Jayco..... Nice :R

RE: Thank goodness I found this forum!!!!!

If your Denali is '07 or newer it is the 6.2. and is rated at 403 HP. Power will not be a problem for you. With the 6 speed transmission you will have no issues with the 3.42 ratio
